Is it okay if I am a complete beginner?

Yes, absolutely. Most participants are beginners. We will teach you from the basics.

What kind of artworks can I create?

After practicing on traditional calligraphy paper, you will complete your final work on a shikishi board (decorative square paper).

Will the lesson be taught by a professional calligrapher?

Yes. Your teacher is a professional calligrapher who is passionate about sharing the beauty of Japanese calligraphy.

Can I take my finished work home?

Yes, you can.

Is the experience explained in English?

Yes, the lesson will be explained in English.

Duration & Schedule

How long does the experience take?

It usually takes about 60 minutes. If you have special requests, please contact us individually.

Are there fixed time slots for the lessons?

Yes. You can select an available time slot through the booking form. If your preferred time is not listed, please contact us directly.

What happens if I arrive late?

Your session time will be shortened. Please be sure to contact us if you will be late.

Will I be with other participants?

Depending on the time, you may join with Japanese students.

What should I do if I get lost on the way?

Clothing & What to Bring

What should I wear for the experience?

Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Is there a chance that my clothes will get stained with ink?

Yes, it’s possible. Ink on skin can be washed off, but stains on clothing cannot be removed.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No, nothing in particular.

Fees & Payment

How much does it cost?

8,000 yen per person.

Do you accept payments other than cash (credit card, e-money, etc.)?

Please make the payment at the time of booking.

Is tipping required?

No, tipping is not necessary.

Language & Cultural Considerations

Can I join even if I don’t speak English?

As long as we can communicate to some extent, it’s fine. Please note that the instructor speaks only Japanese and English.

I’m not confident in Japanese—will that be a problem?

Not at all. The lesson will be explained in English.

Do I need to make a reservation?

Yes, reservations are required. Please book through the reservation form.

Can I book on the same day?

Yes, if there are available slots. If not, please contact us directly.
